Let’s be honest, the world of HVAC is a hard one to understand, and like most people, if you don’t work directly with it, you’re probably not understanding it.
It’s easy to put those monotonous and repetitive chores on the back burner; especially if you’re not seeing instant results.
So I’ve found a way for you to understand your preventative maintenance a little better.
PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE = DENTAL CLEANINGS
Think of your preventative maintenance’s similar to that of a dental checkup. Your dentist will normally tell you that you need to routinely have a dental cleaning/examination. (Routinely being twice a year, one every six months.) Like most, you start off strong, but somewhere along the way your dentist appointments become a lower priority. (sound familiar?)
It’s the same with your preventative maintenance.
Just because your AC unit seems to be running fine, does not mean there might not be some small underlying issues.
HVAC issues are similar to cavities; they start small, and grow larger.
If you were able to get your teeth checked every six months, you could not only prevent your teeth from getting cavities, but it’s easier to fix a small cavity instead of having major dental work. It’s less painful and less expensive.
You can think of your AC unit like this.
As your AC unit runs, it accumulates dust and dirt in key areas that affect its efficiency; like the condensing coils and air filters. If your AC unit is left unchecked, your A/C system can lose 5 percent of its operating efficiency because of this buildup. What that means is, your AC unit will not cool your house at its max capability causing your AC unit to work harder.
Having your AC unit checked and cleaned often could not only prevent you from having issues with your unit, but it could help its efficiency; which in return, could help save you money on your energy bill.
SO WHAT CAN YOU DO?
It’s recommended that you have preventative maintenance done once before the summer season, and once before the winter season for best efficiency.
